About the Event
The Silver City Social is the longtime major fundraiser for
the Silver City Volunteer Fire Department. The SCVFD is
one of the last self-funded volunteer fire departments in
the Black Hills. It provides fire protection and first
responders for a 40 square mile area and 300
structures. It has been essential to fighting the mountain
pine beetle invasion by funding the clearing of a fire
buffer zone around the south side of town and the
spraying pines and thinning of trees inside Silver City.
Because of these efforts, Silver City has been designated
as a Fire Wise Community in 2013.
