Minutes
Minutes for SCVFD Business Meeting held August 11, 2007
Potluck was hosted by Pete and Jane Anderson
The meeting was opened with the Pledge of Allegiance
Jim Light was presented a certificate of appreciation for his long term service to Silver City. Many shared
about the fact that Jim puts others and the community first for his many good deeds of mowing, fire fighting
and handing out Halloween candy to the kids.
Motion to approve the June meeting minutes was made by Nancy Donovan and seconded by Jake
Kammerer.
The Treasurer’s report was given by Todd Tobin.
Motion to approve by Jack Soesby and seconded by Jim Light
Uhl Donovan gave the fire department update. Since our last meeting there have been nine incidents. Our
newest fire fighters in training are Terry and Cindy Skillman from Jenny Gulch. There was a fire above the
third bridge started by lighting that was three quarters contained by SCVFD before the fire service
personnel arrived. Part of the report was about foam that can be sprayed to save a home.
Church news is that the services are being well attended – to date 100 people have signed the guest book
this summer and all the pastors have expressed appreciation for the renovations that have been completed.
Jake Kammerer is planning a painting party for the bathrooms at the community hall this Fall.
The ice cream social profit was $1,514.08. Tonya Gomez thanked everybody for their donations of pies and
time and help in general.
There have been some rattlesnakes sited in the area and everybody was asked to take special care if you
hear the rattles.
There was nobody present from Rochford Road. Jim McArthur shared from Sunnyside that he has had a
new well drilled and there are new members living in their neighborhood.
A review of old business finds the website being visited. The page has a history of Silver City, calendar of
events, fire response reports and merchandise available for purchase. This secretary’s report will be
forwarded to John Gomez to add to the web site. It was also suggested that as community members,
when we send outgoing mail we could include the address, silvercitysd.com on our correspondence. The
fire hall expansion fundraiser has reached a total of $8,373 to date. Jake Kammerer made a motion to
approve the old business items and this was seconded by Tonya Gomez.
There were two items presented to the membership during new business. Scott Jeffers has donated a
number of videos to the fire department that could be used to start a town library that would be operated
on the honor system, could be used as a fund raiser selling the videos or donated to charity. The Board
was given approval to make that decision at their next meeting. The second item was a rumor about our
Silver City road becoming a scenic byway road. It was suggested that people interested in finding out more
about this call Brenda Young, our county commissioner. Jim Light made a motion to approve the new
business items and it was seconded by Pete Anderson.
Final comments included the fact that Rita Chapman has an inventory of both the aerial pictures and other
merchandise items for sale.
Pete Anderson made a motion to adjourn the meeting and that was seconded by Jack Soesby – all agreed
immediately!
Respectfully submitted,
Judy Tobin
Secretary
