SCVFD is a single station, 100% all-volunteer department that
has been fully self-supporting through annual donations and
fundraisers since 1964.
With twelve active firefighters, the department serves as the
primary first responder for forty-three square miles of remote
rural, 90% unoccupied Black Hills National Forest land, with 300
year-round residents and thousands of summer visitors/tourists
during the height of the wildland fire season.
The department is blessed with having a very supportive
community that understands the importance of having a
ready-force of firefighters and equipment.
The department relies on the community and the public for
donations to meet it's $10,000 yearly budget.
